Safety

The technical evolution and the production growth of the most important energy plants during the last decades require always an increasing demand for safety systems, such as automatic monitoring and emergency stop in case of significant earthquakes. The more critical sites are Nuclear Power Plants (NPP), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals and plants, Oil & Gas plants, refineries and Seveso sites in Europe for example.
For this reason, seismic monitoring is fundamental in order to evaluate and guarantee the structural health of the site and consequently the safety of the people living in close proximity.

The main applications in this field:

Nuclear Power Plants (NPP)

NPPs are all equipped with a seismic montoring system for structural health monitoring (SHM). Highy qualified and type tested accelerographs, containing a datalogger and acceleration sensor are typically part of this strong motion monitoring. Other sensitive areas apart from the nuclear island are also monitored, such as the spent fuel storage area among others.

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)

This safety segment includes LNG power plants, tanks, gas compressor stations, LNG jetties and terminals are equipped with SIL2 or SIL3 qualified seismic monitoring systems. Syscom is able to provide equipment with this level of safety integrity.

Sensitive industrial sites (SEVESO)

In Europe, the SEVESO directive aims to improve the safety of sites containing large quantities of dangerous substances by preventing major accidents or by limiting the effects on human health and the environment. The structrual healh monitoring of these sites is in line with the sustainabilty of the infrastructure and the mitigation of risks.
